This report summarizes the findings of the Montgomery County Department of Police Organizational Structure Committee regarding the department's shift toward community policing.
Abstract
The first goal of the committee was to determine police facilities which are used to provide direct access to the public in a community policing context. These facilities could include district stations, satellite facilities, storefront locations, and temporary tactical facilities. The Organizational Structure Committee dealt with issues related to the department's management structure, based on a philosophy that would serve the goals of community policing. This report outlines the responsibilities of various ranks of street officer, including the POIII, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, major, deputy chief, and civilians. Other topics covered by the Committee include the department's organizational structure, planning unit, and civilianization.
