In this study, 590 police and correctional candidate officers completed both the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the Inwald Personality Inventory (IPI) in order to study correlates of officer performance.
Abstract
Three-hundred seventy-five of the candidates were hired, allowing a comparison of preselection test scores and subsequent performance evaluations. The results showed that the MMPI was not significantly related to the job performance of either road patrol or correctional officers. The IPI predicted only the performance of correctional officers. Ten IPI scales were significantly different between correctional officers grouped according to their performance ratings, and seven scales were able to correctly classify 53 percent of the correctional officers. 10 tables and 79 references
