This correspondence course is designed for the middle manager who works with adult or juvenile offenders in correctional institutions, jails, probation and parole and other agencies.
Abstract
The first section of the course, effective management, stresses styles of management, improving group performance, power, latent and manifest goals, and decisionmaking. The second half focuses on critical decisionmaking; it covers problemsolving, stakeholders, problem definition, program evaluation, and action planning. The third book contains worksheets which are divided into an in-basket exercise (in which the student is asked to respond to a series of memos as executive assistant to the correctional commissioner) and a problemsolving exercise.
