This handbook provides information to help Los Angeles property owners deal with gang and drug activities in their communities.
Abstract
The handbook focuses on responsibilities of property owners, trespass laws, abatements, and evictions. The handbook also considers the role of the Los Angeles Police Department in gang and drug prevention and outlines the following steps property owners can take to minimize gang and drug problems in their buildings: use an effective lease, check lighting and shrubbery, maintain building security, remove graffiti on a regular basis, involve tenants in building security and maintenance, protect and maintain parking areas, remove abandoned items and trash, and comply with building safety and fire codes. The handbook discusses the use of trespass laws, abatements, and evictions by property owners in their efforts to control gang and drug activities. Supplemental information and forms for property owners are appended.
