An amendment to Section 101 of the Crime Control Act established an Office of Community Anti-Crime Programs within the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. This office was to provide technical assistance for citizen and community groups. An amendment to Section 203(b) focused on the need for citizen and community participation in all levels of crime prevention program planning. Section 301(b) was amended by adding a paragraph authorizing the use of funds to develop and operate crime prevention programs in which community members participated. An amendment to Section 520(a) authorized funds to be appropriated for community patrol activities and encouraged neighborhood participation in crime prevention and public safety efforts. The Office of Community Anti-Crime Programs was tasked with implementing the amendments. Other amendments to the Crime Control Act dealt with public education, the establishment of criminal justice coordinating councils, crimes against the elderly, special needs of drug offenders, case assessment, corrections, civil rights, and juvenile justice. 3 charts
