Abstract
The primary source of data is the Statewide Traffic Accident Records System. A figure shows the Missouri Traffic Safety Personal Injury Problem Analysis Clock for 1993. A section on the Missouri statewide traffic safety analysis shows annual time series for the Missouri death rate, injury rate, fatal accidents, and fatal and personal injury accidents. Data pertinent to an analysis of the traffic safety problem in Missouri address speed involvement, drinking involvement, young driver involvement, older driver involvement, commercial motor vehicle involvement, motorcycle involvement, school bus involvement, bicycle involvement, pedestrian involvement, fixed-object involvement, hazardous material involvement, construction zone involvement, and seat belt usage. In 1993, Missouri had 177,796 traffic accidents. The economic loss associated with these traffic accidents was estimated to be $3,296,590,000. In these traffic accidents, 0.5 percent (n=843) involved one or more persons being killed in the incident. In addition, 27.6 percent involved no persons being killed but one or more persons being injured in the incident. In 1993, a total of 949 persons died in Missouri traffic accidents. One person was killed every 9.2 hours. The death rate was 1.7 in 1993. Missouri experienced a decrease of 10.5 percent in its death rate compared to 1992. In 1992, the death rate was 1.9. A total of 77,517 persons were injured in traffic accidents in 1993; one person was injured every 6.8 minutes. 50 tables
