This manual describes a process that individuals or groups can follow in responding to domestic assault in their communities and gives examples of the needs of individuals in violent homes to suggest ways in which others can intervene at or near the crisis stage.
Abstract
The guidelines emphasize that domestic assault is a community issue that requires community actions. Concerned individuals are advised to become informed and either find a group or start a group. The steps a group should follow start with educating group members and the public. The subsequent tasks are to define the problem and set priorities; plan action strategies in terms of objectives, logistics, and resources; carry out the plans; and check progress by evaluating, celebration, and examining a new situation. Specific understanding is also needed in cases of wife abuse, child abuse, and abuse of elderly persons. Checklists, case examples from Alberta, Canada, and resource lists
