The Act is the largest crime bill in America's history. It provides for 100,000 new police officers, $9.7 billion in funding for prisons, $6.1 billion in funding for prevention programs, and significantly expands the government's ability to deal with problems caused by criminal aliens. The Act expands Federal activities with regard to, among other things: assault weapons; death penalty; domestic abusers and firearms; firearms licensing; fraud; gang crimes; immigration; juveniles; registration of sexually violent offenders; repeat sex offenders; three strikes; and victims of crime. The Act describes 11 Grant Programs for 1995, including National Criminal History Improvement Program, Byrne Grants and Violence Against Women. It also describes 15 Grant Programs for 1996-2000, including Battered Women's Shelters, DNA Analysis, Model Intensive Grants and Urban Recreation for At-Risk Youth.
