Conference participants explored the issue of financial exploitation, considered some of its underlying aspects, and developed practical approaches to exploitation prevention. Specific conference presentations focused on the financial exploitation of elderly and disabled persons in popular films, the role of conservatorships and guardianships in preventing financial exploitation, bank protocols established between elderly protective services and local banks to prevent financial exploitation, consumer fraud prevention, fraudulent practices in the marketing and sale of insurance and related products, and Medicaid fraud detection and prevention. Conference presentations also considered financial counseling and management, access to the court system, financial exploitation investigation and prosecution, issues affecting elderly and disabled persons, public education, multidisciplinary training, legal strategies, and legislative advocacy on behalf of elderly and disabled persons.
