This article proposes guidelines for the development of a protocol for the collection and identification of condom lubricant traces in the forensic investigations of sexual assault cases.
Abstract
Such a protocol would include a medical examination of the victim; collection of physical evidence from the victim, any suspects, and the crime scene; and inquiries about the recent sexual activities of the victim, including condom use, douching, and lubricant use. The guidelines cover the medical examination, stressing the use of nonlubricated latex gloves, sequence of tests, and number of swabs; the crime scene investigation; victim and suspect interviews; and laboratory examination. 2 figures and 6 references
