The information in the entries was initially compiled from a variety of sources, including State and local government directories of substance abuse programs, the NDATUS survey database of the National Institute of Drug Abuse, searches of telephone companies yellow pages, and reviews of professional journals. After the facilities or programs were identified from these sources, questionnaires were mailed to each one, through which additional information was obtained. Each entry contains the organization, facility, or program name; address; phone number; and program information. Program information may include the addictions and disorders treated, treatment methods and programs, setting, statistics, special services for particular groups, payment methods, accommodations, and parent organization. Entries are arranged by State, then city, and within city, alphabetically by the name of the facility and program.
