Appendixes from the participant manual of "AOD-Related Violence Prevention" include a paper on perspectives on violence and violence prevention in America, an annotated bibliography of selected violence literature, information sources on violence, and a list of electronic bulletin boards and databases on violence.
Abstract
The first appendix provides an overview of AOD-(alcohol and other drugs) related violence, theories relating to AOD use and violence, the implications of a public health approach to violence, and a description of some promising prevention programs. The paper concludes that the growing problem of violence in American communities can be addressed by using multifaceted approaches to reach a variety of different groups. Community-based AOD abuse prevention efforts can use violence- prevention strategies to reduce the toll of intentional injuries. The annotated bibliography of selected violence literature contains listings of 15 books, 9 journal articles, 6 reports, and 1 paper. The list of information sources contains 22 organizations, 15 clearinghouses, and 5 sources of statistics. The list of electronic bulletin boards and databases contains nine entries, most of which can be accessed through commercial information services. Each database is described, along with subject coverage.
