Statements and questions are presented in English, in Spanish, and in phonetic transliteration. Most of these require only a "yes" and "no" response. Following the presentation of a brief vocabulary, various police-citizen interactive procedures are presented in English and Spanish translations. The sentences, phrases, and words included are appropriate for the following procedures: admonition of rights, general identification, the execution of warrants, making an arrest, arrest charges, investigatory stop, consent search, narcotics case, weapons offenses, and victim/suspect/missing person information. Other situations presented are various types of vehicle stops, traffic stop, high-risk vehicle stop, auto accident, sick or injured party, anatomy, domestic call, child abuse or neglect, mentally disturbed/suicidal subject, barricaded criminal subject, hostage negotiation, fire suppression/search and rescue, evacuation of building, and citizen assistance. The accompanying audio tape follows the text of each one of the sections included in the handbook. Each sentence, phrase, or word is spoken first in English and then in Spanish. The Spanish version is repeated. The user reads along with the text, hearing the English and then the Spanish. The handbook combined with the audio tape enables the user to produce phrases and sentences in Spanish that will be understood by most Spanish-speaking subjects.
