The curriculum is composed of three parts. The drug education component helps those who have abused drugs to see how that abuse might have influenced their criminal behavior. It also profiles the various kinds of drugs and their effects on users. This component reviews how society views drugs and the various kinds of substance abuse, including addiction. The chemical-dependency-treatment component is for those who have been told or who believe they are dependent on drugs, including alcohol. It includes a full program of recovery, beginning by helping the abuser define the problem of drug dependency. It then explains the solution and leads the client through a series of actions designed to make the solution an integral part of the client's life. The prerelease or aftercare component shows the client how to work the solution for drug dependency into daily life. It includes a section on living skills and job- seeking skills that will help the client maintain a drug- free and crime-free lifestyle. Each of the three components is broken into units, each unit covers one topic. Units are broken into two-page articles or modules. Each module addresses a basic concept in several ways so it can be learned and then made a part of the client's life.
