The curriculum and supporting materials contained in this document were designed as guidelines for performance- based law enforcement training; the curriculum focuses on cultural diversity in California and the police response to sexual harassment and hate crimes.
Abstract
Developed by a special project committee of human relations professionals, law enforcement trainers, and criminal justice educators, the curriculum covers the cultural makeup of California, benefits of diversity, human rights, prejudice and discrimination, perceptions of cultural groups, cultural stereotyping versus profiling, and strategies for effective cultural contacts. The curriculum also encompasses the history and nature of sexual harassment, legal aspects of sexual harassment, understanding and responding to sexual harassment, complaint processing guidelines for victims of sexual harassment, legal aspects of hate crimes, and the impact of hate crimes. Instructional goals are specified for each learning domain of the curriculum, as well as required tests and learning activities.
