Based on the authors' experience at Cornell University, this manual provides both theoretical and practical advice on conducting sexual assault prevention programs for male college athletes.
Abstract
The Cornell program was proactive in that it was not developed in response to a sexual assault charge against a team member. The program's success led to its expansion and the development of a 4-year cycle of sequential programs that could be offered to any team. Individual sections of the manual present the theoretical background that guided the development of programs for athletes, background on the reasons for targeting athletes, psychosocial factors to consider when working with college athletes, and dynamics that may be encountered when working with a team. Further sections detail different approaches that have proved successful, detailed instructions for planning and conducting programs, and activities that can be used, as they are presented or with adjustments or revisions, for any program with athletes.
