The results revealed a general decline in the numbers of Part I and Part II arrests, from a high of 756,750 in 1990 to a low of 653,787 in 1993. Offenders typically were young white males, but a greater percentage of all nonwhite males ages 18-24 than of white males were arrested. Juvenile white males were responsible for the greatest number and percentage of arrests for Part I crimes. Persons ages 18-24 represented approximately 10 percent of Florida's population, but were responsible for more than 25 percent of all arrests. Persons aged 55 and over made up 25 percent of the State's population, but were involved in only 3 percent of the arrests. Approximately 45 percent of all arrests were white males, but these arrests represented only 6 percent of that population group.
