The State Justice Institute is authorized through Federal law to award grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts to State and local courts, nonprofit organizations, and others for the purpose of improving the administration of justice in the State courts. Approximately $11.5 million in grants will be available in fiscal year 1995.
Abstract
These guidelines outlines the scope of the grant program, focusing on authorized program areas and special interest program categories, including, inter alia, improving public confidence in courts, planning and managing the future of the courts, resolving current evidentiary issues, and eliminating race and ethnic bias in the courts. The guidelines cover definitions, eligibility for award, types of projects and size of awards, concept paper submission requirements for new projects, and application requirements for new projects. In addition, the guidelines specify application review procedures, renewal funding procedures and requirements, compliance requirements, and financial requirements. The final section deals with grant adjustments. The guidelines also include recommendations for grant applicants in terms of submitting acceptable proposals, and for grantees in terms of administering their projects according to grant stipulations. 6 appendixes
