Participants at the Thirteenth Small Countries Conference agreed that domestic antidrug educational programs and international drug law enforcement cooperation are essential elements in a campaign to stop the waste of resources in small countries that results from drug use and drug trafficking.
Abstract
The members discussed the importance of working with large neighboring countries in the international policing of drug trafficking and related money laundering activities. Other issues discussed at the conference pertaining to this issue included the need for effective drug prevention education; the value of a multidisciplinary approach to reducing the supply of, and demand for, drugs; the economic and social roots of drug abuse, particularly among youth; and the importance of trying new and innovative countermeasures.
