The first part of the book documents organized crime investigations, prosecutions, and convictions between 1978 and 1993 and explains legal tools and organizational strategies used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal prosecutors. The second part of the book details the following organized crime cases: the Teamsters Local 560 case, the Pizza Connection case, the Commission case, the Teamsters International case, and the John Gotti case. Each chapter consists of an introductory essay and original source materials drawn from the particular case's indictment, trial, and appeal. Significant legal weapons employed against organized crime are described, including electronic surveillance, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, and the Witness Security Program. Structural changes in the U.S. Department of Justice to fight organized crime and developments in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's organized crime program are described.
