These management strategies all strive to provide for more expeditious processing of the drug caseload, to develop mechanisms to conserve the use of judicial system resources, to provide management continuity for complex drug cases of those warranting multiple court hearings, and to deal more effectively with convicted drug offenders who violate their probation conditions. In response to changing needs, courts have begun to develop multiple case processing tracks for all or most criminal cases, assign drug and drug-related cases to special court divisions, consolidate limited and general jurisdiction court processes, and improve responses to probation violations. Courts have also had to define the goals they wish to accomplish with drug treatment program referrals.
