This fiscal 1993 annual report of the Illinois Department of Corrections addresses corrections employees' community volunteer efforts, major corrections achievements, employee and expenditure data, and statistics and achievements for each facility.
Abstract
During fiscal 1993, Illinois corrections employees continued to reach out to the children in poor communities with nothing constructive to do with their leisure time. These efforts have focused on bringing these children into contact with adults who provide examples of positive attitudes about life and what these children can accomplish if they set and work toward goals for themselves. Major corrections events of fiscal year 1993 included the opening of the Big Muddy River Correctional Center, a 952-bed medium-security facility; a task force report on ways to alleviate prison crowding while maintaining public safety; and the opening of three work camps and a second prison "boot" camp. An organizational chart is followed by reports from the various State corrections agencies. Data on expenditures address total expenditures for fiscal year 1993, expenditure increase, new appropriations for fiscal year 1988 through 1993, and expenditures for various activities. Data on each correctional facility include the date opened, capacity, inmate security status and gender, accreditation, the average daily population for fiscal year 1993, the average inmate age, and the average annual cost per inmate. The programs at each facility are also profiled. Other data show the number of employees trained for each year from fiscal year 1988 through fiscal year 1993.
