This booklet is designed to acquaint interested Californians with some of the Nation's best juvenile justice programs.
Abstract
The first chapter of the pamphlet, Innovative Approaches to Juvenile Detention, discusses San Francisco's point-scale criteria for juvenile detention, California's home supervision program, juvenile alternative work service in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and New York City's Department of Juvenile Justice. Chapter Two, Local Alternatives to Commitment and Private Placement, presents information on the Associated Marine Institutes day treatment program, the Seattle-based Homebuilders program, and the KEY outreach and tracking program. Chapter Three Alternatives to the California Youth Authority features Pennsylvania's alternative rehabilitation communities. The final chapter discusses whether California can afford to invest in new juvenile justice models. Table
