The control techniques described do not involve any weapon use by officers or resisting suspects. They are also designed to avoid any severe injury to the suspect. The format for the instruction is lecture by the instructor as he demonstrates the combat techniques on a person acting as the resisting suspect. The lecture and demonstrations are divided into 13 lessons. They include "Angles," which involves moving to a tactical position that facilitates controlling the suspect; "Center of Gravity," which involves the identification of the suspect's center of gravity; "Elbow and Knee Strikes," which identifies the targets and techniques involved in the delivery of knee and elbow strikes; and "Open-handed Strike Targets." Other lessons pertain to wrist holds, wrist locks, wrist-lock countermeasures, head butts and pressure points, kneeling-position handcuffing, prone- position handcuffing, two-officer handcuffing, weapon retention (how officers can counter efforts to take their weapons), and a review of how officers can address suspect efforts to counter officer control techniques.
