Thirty of the Nation's leading law enforcement experts each present an important survival tip for police officers in this video.
Abstract
Each expert presents one survival tip in a brief lecture with no or minimal demonstration. In the 30 survival tips, virtually all aspects of officer survival are addressed, including physical, psychological, emotional, legal, and professional challenges. The tips pertain to such issues as the wearing of body armor, strategic thinking, familiarity with gang symbols, the correct use of guns, and the importance of survival planning. Other tips focus on priority survival preparation for female officers, ethical challenges, off-duty survival techniques, stress management, weapons search, and protective measures in informal street interviews. The main themes that permeate the tips are proper training, continual practice of survival techniques, mental rehearsal or visualization of proper actions in various situations, and mental alertness and the use of observation skills throughout an officer's shift.
