This report presents statistical tables regarding the numbers and racial and ethnic characteristics of inmates and parolees in the California State correctional system in August 1994, as well as monthly trends since August 1993.
Abstract
A total of 117,819 males and 8,193 females were in California correctional institutions in August 1994, an increase of 8,493 from August 1993. New admissions in August 1994 totaled 11,392, while new releases totaled 10,724. Twenty-nine percent of the inmates were white, 32 percent were black, and just under 34 percent were Hispanic. A total of 81,157 felons were on parole, of whom 29.3 percent were white, 30 percent were black, and 36.2 percent were Hispanic. Tables
