Data from Missouri's Statewide Traffic Accident Records System (STARS) formed the basis of this analysis of traffic accidents involving emergency service vehicles.
Abstract
The analysis revealed that during 1991-93, the State has experienced 3,668 emergency service vehicle traffic accidents. The 1,212 accidents in 1993 involved 1,249 emergency service vehicles and resulted in the death of 1 person and injuries to 543 persons. Three hundred four of these vehicles were on an emergency run at the time of the accident; the incident no doubt delayed or prevented the unit from responding to the original emergency situation. Nine hundred eighty-one of the vehicles were police vehicles, 130 were fire vehicles, and 123 were ambulances. Figures, tables, and glossary
