This monthly report for July 1994 presents data on California's institutional population and movements, institutional racial-ethnic distribution, parole population and movements, and parole racial-ethnic distribution.
Abstract
The data on monthly prison populations and movements cover each month from July 1993 through July 1994. The data by commitment type are presented separately for male and female inmate populations. The total institutional population in July 1993 was 116,361 and increased to 125,319 in July 1994. The monthly numbers for various types of prison population movements are also distinguished by gender. Inmate admission or return status is shown by institution as of July 31, 1994. The number and percentage of inmates in various racial-ethnic groups are shown for each institution as of July 31, 1994. The racial-ethnic distribution of the institutional population is also shown by commitment type and by security level of institution as of July 31, 1994. Numbers in the monthly parole population and movements are shown by gender for each month from July 1993 through July 1994. The total parole population in July 1993 was 84,654 and increased to 85,265 in July 1994. The number and percentage of parolees in various racial-ethnic groups are shown by region as of July 31, 1994. A glossary of terms and definitions is included.
