Thirty-nine States and one territory have such laws. They specify whether the victim or the minor victim's parent or guardian may request HIV testing of a person arrested, the court's determination of whether the offense involved significant exposure, the roles and responsibilities of corrections and health agencies, and notification and counseling of victims and persons tested. The use of confirmatory tests, review and disclosure of information, and confidentiality provisions are also covered. A separate section explains the function of the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse, which was founded by the American Prosecutors Research Institute in 1985.
