The 10 steps are as follows: (1) return of control and responsibility to the survivor; (2) full ventilation of anger; (3) full disclosure of the abuse; (4) expression of all associated feelings; (5) formation of a new image; (6) value reassessment; (7) initiation of risk-taking behaviors; (8) progressive but rapid promotion to satisfying behaviors; (9) reality orientation to a new life; and (10) provision for followup. Each of the preceding steps are discussed in some detail, with practical implementation suggestions and examples offered. The author stresses the traumatic effects of sexual victimization, the importance of control and decisionmaking in the treatment process, and the use of value change techniques to help sexual abuse victims reorder their lives. 3 references and 5 figures
