Through the use of a literature search, follow-up interviews with topic area experts, panel discussion, and case reviews, the topic is studied in detail. The research shows that if current trends continue, gang violence and gang-related homicide will significantly impact investigative systems in the future. Workload statistics and crime patterns show that no one department or agency has the personnel, economic resources, or administrative latitude to respond effectively to the overwhelming workload created by gang violence. The future of gang-related homicide investigations lies in the effective application of technology use, resource and personnel sharing within the law enforcement community, civilian partnerships with investigative systems, and improved computerized information resources. The selected strategy recommends the implementation of a management plan that will strengthen the model organization's ability to capitalize on the future opportunities presented by the identified issues.
