This article responds to claims set forth in an earlier article about the implication of rap music in the deaths of police officers, and raises questions regarding issues related to free speech.
Abstract
This essay expands on the earlier article's review of music; discusses the controversy surrounding rap music; examines the efficacy of censorship; discusses the dilemma of law enforcement personnel within the existing legal, social, and political structure of the American criminal justice system; and suggests that individuals studying crime should confront the misconceptions of crime introduced by the Reagan Administration, solidified by the Bush Administration, and timidly embraced by the Clinton Administration.
