This report presents the findings for the last quarter of 1993 of the Drug Enforcement Administration's program to monitor the retail-level heroin situation by making undercover heroin purchases that are analyzed for price, purity, adulterants, diluents, and geographic source area.
Abstract
The program collected samples in 15 areas, making 94 purchases of which 88 contained heroin. The purity averaged 38.1 percent and ranged from 3 to 89.5 percent. Eighteen of the samples were from Southeast Asia, four were from Southwest Asia, 19 were from Mexico, six were from South America, and 41 were unclassifiable. The average cost per milligram of pure heroin ranged from 67 cents for heroin from Southwest Asia to $1.16 for the unclassifiable heroin. Figures and tables
