Abstract
There were 26 more fatal accidents in 1993 than in the previous year, and 25 more deaths. Nearly 35 percent of the victims had consumed alcohol and 11.2 percent of all drivers involved in these accidents were legally intoxicated. There were 43 motorcycles involved in fatal accidents and 18 pedalcyclists involved; the pedestrian toll was 197. The statistics presented in this report cover the conditions under which collisions occurred, types of vehicles involved, road conditions, and driver characteristics. Specific areas of concern covered here include interstate highway fatalities; pedalcycle, motorcycle, and tractor-trailer accidents; restraint usage; involvement of younger drivers; accidents occurring during holiday periods; and accidents trends for New Jersey.
