This report contains recommendations of the Institute for Law and Policy Planning to improve the efficiency of jail and criminal justice management in Polk County (FL).
Abstract
One of the most stunning findings of the project is that if Polk County's criminal justice agencies could reduce the average length of stay in jail by even one day, the county would save several million dollars over the next two decades. Recommendations to increase efficiency in criminal justice agencies and reduce costs are presented: Inmate Population Growth; Corrections/Sheriff; Judiciary and Pretrial Release; Information Systems; and Facilities. The second volume contains supporting data and analysis of the findings and recommendations presented in the first volume of the report. Supporting data are presented in the following sections: (1) Jail Population Forecast; (2) Inmate Tracking Analysis; (3) Inmate Profile Analysis; (4) Criminal Justice Agency Assessments; (5) Alternatives to Incarceration; and (6) Existing Space Use Assessment.
