Murder and robbery have increased statewide, and felonious assault has decreased statewide. Rape has remained at a steady rate on a statewide level, but various counties show different trends. Fourteen counties have experienced an increase in the murder rate, and five counties have shown a decrease. Twenty counties have shown an increase in the rape crime rate, and three counties have had a decrease in the rape crime rate. Seventeen counties have shown an increase in the robbery crime rate, and four counties have experienced a decrease in the robbery crime rate. Twenty-four counties have seen an increase in the felonious assault crime rate, while 16 counties have experienced a decrease in the felonious assault crime rate. The murder crime rate has increased in five West Virginia cities, and six cities have had an increase in the rape crime rate; four cities have had a decrease in the rape crime rate. The robbery crime rate has increased in eight cities, while five cities have had a decrease in the robbery crime rate.
