Responses came from 1,269 police officers. Results revealed that sexual harassment is a common experience among females in law enforcement. The results paralleled the findings of other studies in both the public and private sectors. In addition, findings revealed a widespread perception that females must endure sexual harassment if they desire careers in law enforcement. Other issues included the lack of understanding of the subject by Florida law enforcement professionals and the adverse effect of sexual harassment on the work environment. Findings indicated the need for police agencies to take action to eliminate sexual harassment and promote a more positive work environment. Figures, table, and 15 references (Author abstract modified)
