This article concerns the lack of adequate medical care for women with HIV and AIDS at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla.
Abstract
Prisoners' stories of uncaring, incompetent, and grossly inadequate medical care describe a medical system in disarray at every level. Lawyers from the Fresno and San Francisco areas, and from the American Civil Liberties Union National Prison Project, and a prison medical expert have interviewed Chowchilla inmates and are preparing a class action suit challenging the inadequate medical care at the prison. The article also examines the national issue of compassionate release for prisoners with AIDS. Footnotes
