The countries under investigation here comprise the principal producing, processing, and exporting countries in the Americas for marijuana, cocaine, methaqualone, and heroin entering the U.S. The first section of the book examines U.S. drug policy toward Latin America through an historical overview of U.S. drug control policy, a discussion of the Andean strategy, and an analysis of the U.S. and Latin American militaries' role in drug control efforts. The seven subsequent sections explore drug trafficking issues particular to Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Mexico, and Central America and the Caribbean. The final section explores the international implications of Western Hemisphere drug trafficking in terms of international law enforcement cooperation and conflicts of national interest. Chapter notes
