This article describes a rapid procedure using Micellar Electrokinetic Capillary Chromatography (MECC) for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of heroin exhibits.
Abstract
In addition to measuring illegal heroin samples, the system allows the determination, usually within 5 minutes, of impurities and adulterants in the samples. MECC incorporates a micelle in the run buffer allowing for the separation of both charged and neutral compounds in a single run. Linearity, accuracy, and reproducibility studies of heroin using this method were established, and comparisons to a commonly used gas chromatographic method show good correlation. MECC is an enhanced technique which eliminates some of the disadvantages encountered with gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. Coupling this system with a diode array or rapid scanning ultraviolet detector would further enhance specificity of detection. 1 figure, 5 tables, and 19 references
