This book is intended to provide youth with an understanding of the purpose and nature of the law, the role of the justice system, the civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution and its amendments, and the procedures involved when someone breaks the law.
Abstract
Individual sections present historical background on the law and individual rights, the meaning of justice, issues of freedom and control, the role of laws, and how laws and regulations are enacted. The differences between civil law and criminal law are explained, as are specific areas such as titles, patents, copyrights, deeds, child labor law. Arrest procedures, trial procedures, the juvenile justice system, and appeals are also explained. Additional sections present a mock trial and other activities and games to promote understanding of the law and legal procedures. Glossary and index
