An introduction notes that 91 percent of the missing person reports involve juveniles. Federal law requires that when a juvenile is reported missing to a law enforcement agency, identifying information should be entered into the State law enforcement system and the National Crime Information Center computer networks immediately. The information should include the name, sex, race, date of birth, date of emancipation, height, weight, hair color, eye color, date missing, and incident type. Iowa requires a report that includes this information as well as a summary of evidence gathered during any preliminary investigation.
