Title: Drug Use Forecasting: Data Analysis of the Adult Sample, Deschutes County, Oregon, First Report for 1991-1992 Fiscal Year
Author(s): M W Finigan
Date Published: 1992
Annotation: Data from 90 adult male arrestees and 12 adult female arrestees in Deschutes County (Oreg.) during 1991 formed the basis of an analysis of drug use among these arrestees.
Abstract: Of the 86 offenders who provided urinalysis specimens, 31 percent tested positive for drugs, compared to 32 percent in the last sample. More than 17 percent of the sample tested positive for marijuana, 9 percent for amphetamines, 3 percent for opiates, 2 percent for cocaine, 1 percent for valium, and 1 percent for barbiturates. Amphetamine use in Deschutes County appeared to be twice that of the urban Multnomah County, while the percentages reporting use of marijuana and cocaine at some time during their lives were nearly identical in the two counties. More than 43 percent of the Deschutes County and 34 percent of the Multnomah County arrestees had received drug treatment at some point in their lives for alcohol problems, drug problems, or both. Thirty percent of the Deschutes County and 37 percent of the Multnomah County participants reported injecting drugs at some time in their lives. Figures and tables
