These guidelines and resource materials are designed for use by organizations and individuals in community awareness, public education, and multidisciplinary efforts to promote crime victims' rights and services.
Abstract
Readers are urged to review the ideas, expand upon them to fit their community's needs, and use the materials in their public awareness and outreach activities. Included are a sample speech, a sample sermon, a sample press release, guidelines for working with local schools to sponsor a student poster and essay contest, and a set of quotations related to the theme of the 1995 National Crime Victims' Rights Week. In addition, 12 statistical overviews address the major areas of crime and victimization and are intended for duplication and use in resource arenas, press conferences, community forums, school assemblies, and other activities. Additional materials include a brief history of the victims' rights movement, camera-ready artwork for bookmarks and other materials, a list of 15 national toll- free telephone numbers that provide information and referrals to crime victims and those who serve them, and an application form from the National Criminal Justice Reference Service.
