This book discusses the tasks, tactics, and tools of the modern S.W.A.T. team, following a brief history of S.W.A.T. units, their use in armed encounters, and the limits on their capabilities.
Abstract
The primary tasks of the S.W.A.T. team relate to crowd and riot control, barricaded suspects, snipers, VIP protection, and backup in high-risk arrests. The tactics described here include setting up perimeters, handling barricaded suspects, deployment and movement, the S.W.A.T. sniper, setting up ambushes, explosive entry, VIP protection, drug law enforcement, crowd and riot control, counterterrorism, intelligence, and press relations. Tools are discussed in terms of organization and employment, selection of team members, training, S.W.A.T. equipment, entry weapons, chemical munitions, and equipment suppliers.
