The main inclusion criteria for secondary works is that they pertain directly to prostitution. Primary sources include sermons, broadsides, books, pamphlets, diaries, travel accounts, parliamentary documents, newspaper articles, and court records. Following an introduction, which surveys the literature of prostitution covered in the bibliography, are three chapters which contain critical annotations or reviews of the literature. The bibliography is divided into three time periods: Tudor-Stuart Britain (1485-1700), the 18th Century, and the 19th Century. Each chapter is divided into primary and secondary sources, where entries are arranged alphabetically by author, or title when author is unknown. The main subject headings in the index are very broad, but include specific subheadings.
