This booklet examines the ways in which children and adolescents express their anger and suggests means by which parents and teachers can help them express those feelings in more positive and constructive ways.
Abstract
Children with anger problems are more likely to engage in fights with peers, be verbally abusive toward adults, and be defiant of rules. Risk factors associated with anger in children include learning problems, family problems, difficulty making friends, immature behavior, hyperactivity, medical problems, lack of physical coordination, and difficulty in expressing feelings. Children with anger problems often overreact in anger to everyday events, are disruptive, have frequent physical complaints, show dramatic changes in sleep or eating patterns, blame others for their problems, withdraw from friends, and act moody and irritable. This booklet outlines practical approaches to managing anger in preschoolers, school-aged children, and adolescents.
