Some of the specific issues discussed at the symposium included democratic justice, environmental justice litigation, environmental risk assessments, the impact of race and age, the role of occupational health in achieving environmental justice, issues of classification in environmental equity, hazardous waste cleanup in communities of color, land use and urban planning, community empowerment, and protecting endangered communities. The authors of these papers suggest how to evaluate the dimensions of the problem; explore the relationship between environmental justice and other economic and environmental ideals; explore how the problem is perceived from community, corporate, and administrative perspectives; and evaluate the feasibility of various legal, political, administrative, and legislative remedies.
