This video provides information on services and intervention for victims of spouse abuse.
Abstract
The video on spouse abuse, "One Hit Leads to Another," dramatizes violent incidents between spouses (husband abusing wife) to show the patterns and effects of spousal abuse. Actual victims explain why they were reluctant to seek help, namely, economic dependence on the abuser, a sense of powerlessness, and fear of an unknown future. Victims also tend to believe they can eventually please the abuser such that he will no longer be abusive. Actual abusing spouses who have received treatment explain the cycle of abuse and the importance of therapeutic intervention to break the cycle. Shelters for battered women and their children are described and portrayed. They provide vocational guidance and group therapy for victims.
