This summary report of California institutional and parole correctional populations as of January 1995 encompasses institutional population and movements, institutional racial- ethnic distribution, parole population and movements, and parole racial-ethnic distribution.
Abstract
Information on monthly prison populations and movements contains statistics for each month from January 1994 through January 1995; it addresses commitment/movement type and prison population movements. Data on commitment/movement type are distinguished by male and female institutions. The total institutional population on January 1994 was 120,379, and it was 126,140 in January 1995. Regarding prison population movements, the total number received in January 1994 was 9,847, and the number released was 9,440. In January 1995, the number received was 10,893, and the total released was 10,381. Admission or return status is shown by institution as of January 31, 1995. Racial-ethnic distribution of the institutional population by institution as of January 31, 1995, shows the number and percentage that are white, black, Hispanic (Mexican), and "other." Racial-ethnic distribution of the institutional population is also shown by commitment type and level of institution. Similar data are shown for the parole population. A glossary of terms and definitions is provided.
